MORE THAN YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW
My name is Keith Whitfield. Thank you for your interest in my work. A few things about me:
• I’ve lived in Oklahoma all my life.
• I am a “70s Dweller,” basically an old hippie.
• I’m your worst nightmare on an airplane – Christian, ex-smoker, mostly Libertarian, health-conscious. Let’s talk.
• I love dogs.
• Diehard Oklahoma State University Alum.
• Get off my lawn!
After graduating from OSUIT, a fellow grad and I started Aartvark Graphic Design. After about a year, I moved back to the Tulsa area, went to work for Sommers Sign System as a sign painter, and married the prettiest girl in town.
I purchased the company five years later.
In 1988, I sold the sign company to take a position with a pressure vessel company as a draftsman, as well as assisting them in customizing their AutoCAD system. While there, I returned to school, completing courses in FORTRAN programming and database development. Over time, I became the company’s in-house graphics guy, applications developer, and certified welding inspector (CWI) overseeing the weld testing and weld procedures documentation. All the while, I continued to dabble with sign painting and graphic design in my spare time.
In April of 2016, I retired from the pressure vessel company and went back to work for the gentleman that had purchased my old sign company. I was there about a year when I got the opportunity to go home and illustrate a technical manual. I resurrected Aartvark and have been painting and designing on my own schedule since.
Not a bad gig if you can get it.
